The IR Drum box is played by moving your hands in front of four different IR sensors (two sensors on the top of the box and one on each side). The sounds are best triggered when users play them like air drums. The different sensors correspond to different types of drums.
Rob’s audio notes
This one is based on a late 80s sampler. We have four drum samples (hi-hat, snare, tom, bass) which are then pitch shifted the old fashioned way, like a tape player, based on what the IR sensors read.
How we built it
The box follows our general box design with these modifications:
- Four IR proximity sensors were connected to the Arduino which passed on the signal to the Raspberry Pi.
